Fans of Harry Potter are poring over the books again, for new reason. They’re searching for clues. Three days after the author of the popular books revealed one of the main characters is gay, the world wide web is still abuzz with the news. Thousands upon thousands of comments on websites and blogs all across the internet are discussing the outing of Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore.
Author J. K. Rowling is receiving both praise and criticism for her announcement, which came Friday in New York, and continues to spread to Potter fans the world over. Many are wondering what effects, if any, this will have on the successful string of books, films, and other merchandise tied to it.
Rowling’s announcement that “Dumbledore is gay,” came in response to a question posed to her at Carnegie Hall, on the final day of her U. S. Book tour. She revealed further that the headmaster was infatuated with his friend-turned-rival wizard Gellert Grindelwald.
