hurricane-humberto-downgraded-to-tropical-storm-winds-of-65-mph.jpgHurricane Humberto, which quickly changed its outfit from Tropical Storm to Hurricane Thursday morning., has now been downgraded to its previous Tropical Storm status, with current maximum sustained winds of 65 mph over southwestern Louisiana, according to the National Hurricane Center’s 10 a.m Thursday report.

“All coastal hurricane and tropical storm warnings are discontinued. However, damaging winds are still occurring inland near the center of Humberto. For storm information specific to your area…including inland watches and warnings, please monitor products issued by your local weather office. “NHC forecasters said.

Furthermore, the newly updated forecast from NHC now includes the possibility of isolated tornadoes in southeastern Louisiana and Southern Mississippi through tonight.

On Thursday at around 2 a.m CDT, Hurricane Humberto made landfall along the Texas coast, east of High Island with maximum winds of 85 mph, dumping heavy rains, NHC forecasters said.

Tropical Storm Humberto is now moving toward southwestern Louisiana with sustained momentum, near 12 mph that is expected to continue over the next 24 hours. Humberto’s center will cross central Louisiana today.

With its current maximum sustained winds nearing 65 mph as of 10 a.m Thursday, Tropical Storm Humberto is expected to pack higher gusts, confined to a very small area near the center.

Humberto is expected to weaken during the day today as it moves farther inland, says NHC.

The NHC’s newly revised updated rainfall repoet says amounts could reach 4 to 8 inches with maximum amounts of 12 inches across much of Louisiana and Mississippi, and the lower parts of southeastern Arkansas. In addition, some coastal flooding is possible from Cameron, Louisiana to Vermillion Bay today.

Meanwhile, NHC says that a hurricane warning remains in effect from east of High Island, Texas to Cameron, Louisiana. Also, a tropical storm warning remains in effect from east of Cameron to Intracoastal City, Louisiana.

Additional weakening is expected today with Tropical Storm Humberto possibly becoming a tropical depression by early Friday, NHC forecasters say.
