A new film that made its debut in theaters on Friday depicts a dark day in American history.
“September Dawn” is stirring controversy in the retelling of 1857′s Mountain Meadows Massacre in Utah.
Scholars and Mormon church fathers have long accepted the involvement of local leaders in the killings of the band of settlers headed West, but the filmmakers also point fingers at prophet Brigham Young.
The film stars Jon Voight, and is rated R.
