Hurricane Dean’s Death Toll Rises, Central Mexico Hard-Hit

By Mazen Alkhamis on Aug 25th, 2007 in Earth, Headlines | Add story link to StumbleUpon

hurricane-deans-death-toll-rises-central-mexico-hard-hit.jpgFour days after the massive Hurricane Dean made landfall in Mexico, and the overall death toll from the storm is at least 26.

Nine of those deaths occurred in Mexico, the other 17 victims died during Dean’s violent sweep across the Caribbean.

Damage reports stretch from the Lesser Antilles in the eastern Caribbean, across Jamaica, and all the way to central Mexico. Heavy flooding there is forcing thousands to flee there homes.

The first storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, Dean grew to the most dangerous level as the storms go, slamming ashore as a Category 5 in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.
