The Reverend Jerry Falwell, an icon of American televangelism, has died at the age of 73.

The founder of Christian political lobby group the Moral Majority, and Liberty University was found unconscious at his office on the school’s campus in Lynchburg, Virginia on Tuesday morning. Falwell was pronounced dead shortly afterward at a local hospital.

Falwell is survived by his wife Macel and three children.

Funeral services are set for Tuesday afternoon at Thomas Road Baptist Church, the church Rev. Falwell founded in Lynchburg.
