Blue Angels Pilot Dies in S. C. Air Show Crash

The U. S. Navy has lost a member of its elite aerobatics team the Blue Angels. One of the pilots died when tragedy struck during an air show in South Carolina on Saturday. Local authorities said several people on the ground were reported injured. The name of the pilot who was killed has not yet been released.
The F-18 Hornet jet was reported to have been flying the familiar Delta formation with the other five planes before it crashed into trees and homes near the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort, S. C.
The Blue Angels, based in Pensacola, Florida, recently celebrated its 60th anniversary. The U. S. Navy precision flight team is known for its stunning performances and the distinctive blue-and-yellow fighter jets it has flown for the past 20 years.
According to the Blue Angels website, the team is scheduled to fly 66 air shows at 35 air show sites in the United States this year.
