The internet telephony network, Skype is calling out to Mac OS X users to come and try its latest beta release with a new feature called, Call Transfer. On Wednesday, the Luxembourg-based company released a new Skype beta version 2.6 for Mac OS X.
Still in its beta phase, along with some features not yet available to Mac users, the new version includes many fixes to bugs previously reported by Mac users, like better handling for birthday reminders , and other notifications like the alert icon in the header of My Skype area when one of the services is about to expire.
Some of the newly added features, which might be something to be excited about, depending on your use, includes chat typing indicator, which allows you see when others are writing a message in the chat window.
Other features also added like chat alert highlighting, call transfer, automatic updates, public chat support, and finally payments for Skype prime premium services, a recently introduced feature to the Windows version of Skype.
The most interesting feature in the new 2.6 version is Call Transfer, a cool new feature that allows Macs users to transfer an ongoing call to another Skype user. This can be done by simply clicking on “More” in the call window of an incoming call, then and selecting the Skype contact where you want call to be forwarded.
Skype beta version 2.6 also included an improved “Away” status management, it now allows users to Set my status to Away after XX minutes, and it can also be disabled from the preferences window altogether by setting the value to 0.
Amongst some of the bugs rooted out in the new beta version includes, a fix for crashes when adding new contacts to Skype, and another fix for ”previously used Skype names” feature, which sometimes doesn’t show up in the combo box in the main login window, as well as many other minor fixes.
